IMPACT — MEDIUM

The Peruvian government has approved amendments to a bill that will create new visa options for Andean nationals, among other changes.

Key Points:

  • Once the new law is implemented, Bolivian, Colombian and Ecuadorian nationals will be able to apply for a new temporary residence and work visa valid for two years.
  • Mercosur visa applications will be allowed to collect their visa at Peruvian consulates in their country; previously, they had to travel to Peru to apply for and collect their Mercosur visa.
  • Bolivian, Colombian and Ecuadorian nationals will be able to apply to extend their status for an additional 90 days.
  • Peruvian authorities have yet to provide a date when they will implement the aforementioned changes.

BAL Analysis: The Peruvian government announced the upcoming immigration changes for Andean nationals and Mercosur applicants to streamline the application process and reduce the burdens placed on such applicants. BAL will provide more information once the law is published in the Peruvian Gazette.
