What is the change? Employers are reminded to submit their biannual list of foreign employees to the Labour Commissioner by Dec 31.
What does the change mean? Employers should begin preparing to submit their lists. Lists must detail all foreign nationals who are employed at the time of filing and all foreign national employees who have left their employ, as well as their Tanzanian national successors, since the last biannual filing on June 30.
Background: Under the Tanzanian Non-Citizens (Employment Regulation) Act of 2015, implemented in September of 2015, employers are required to submit a biannual list in the form of a “Return on Employment of Non-Citizens” no later than June 30 and Dec. 31 every year. The list must detail the total number of foreign and Tanzanian employees, all foreign nationals employed by the company at the time of filing and all foreign nationals who have left the employ of the company, and their Tanzanian national successors, since the last biannual filing that was due June 30. Employers are reminded that if they fail to file by the deadline, the Labour Commissioner may deem them noncompliant.
BAL Analysis: Employers should be sure to meet the Dec. 31 filing deadline. Those in need of assistance should contact BAL.
