IMPACT – MEDIUM

The Greek Ministry of Migration has authorized extensions for expired and expiring residence permits and submission certificates. The residence permit submission deadline for holders of expiring national visas has likewise been extended.

Key Points:

  • Greek residence permits can be renewed up to five months after their expiration date. This applies to residence permits that expired between Feb. 11 and March 11 (as long as they were eligible for renewal) and residence permits that expire between March 12 and May 12.
  • The same extension rule applies to residence permit submission certificates.
  • Residence permit duration is automatically extended from the expiry date until the renewal submission date. The duration of the renewed permit/submission certificate will begin retroactively from the date it expired.
  • National visa holders required to apply for a Greek residence permit between March 12 and April 10 may do so until May 10.
