The French government recently extended the deadline for British citizens to apply for residence permits under the U.K. Withdrawal Agreement until Sept. 30.

Key Points:

  • British citizens who came to France before Dec. 31, 2020, and have not previously applied for resettlement are able to do so until Sept. 30.
  • British citizens must submit their applications on this website to receive their post-Brexit residence permits. The new permits will state “UK withdrawal agreement form the EU.”
  • All British citizens over the age of 18 will be required to have a residence permit or have an application pending by Oct. 1. Minors are exempt from the Withdrawal Agreement requirements in France.

Additional Information: British nationals who arrived in France after Jan. 1, 2021, must submit their residence permit applications at their local prefecture.

BAL Analysis: The extended deadline gives British citizens who were unable to file their application before the July 1 deadline additional time to file for resettlement under the U.K. Withdrawal Agreement.
