The Brazilian government extended its immigration deadlines and emergency COVID-19 health measures until March 15, 2022.

Key Points:

  • Foreign nationals whose immigration documents expired after March 16, 2020, have until March 15, 2022, to obtain or register permanent residence or a temporary visa.
  • Foreign nationals will not be penalized for an excess of stay or a delay in registration if they complete the registration before March 15, 2022.
  • Passports, identification documents and criminal background certificates issued abroad that expire after March 16, 2020, will be accepted in the immigration process as long as the individual remained a resident of Brazil and seeks to become regularized by March 15, 2022.
