E-visas now available for Canada, Japan, U.S.

What is the change? Nationals of Canada, Japan and the U.S. now have the option to apply for electronic visas when traveling to Brazil for tourism or business, and can avoid having to apply for a visa at a Brazilian consulate.

What does the change mean? E-visas are valid for up to two years. Foreign nationals traveling for tourism or business may stay in Brazil for up to 180 cumulative days per year with individual stays of up to 90 days. Eligible travelers may apply online here and will receive an electronically issued visa within 48 to 72 hours.

Background: Brazil announced the electronic visa system last year. Australian citizens were able to apply for e-visas starting Nov. 21.

BAL Analysis: The introduction of the online visa system is consistent with Brazil’s initiatives to streamline immigration services, and it will reduce processing times and improve travel for business and tourist visitors from Australia, Canada, Japan and the U.S.
