IMPACT – HIGH

Italian authorities have updated restrictions on travel from the United Kingdom and Brazil.

Key Points:

  • The United Kingdom is now on the List E classification, but with specific travel restrictions, and will remain there until March 5. Travel to and from List E countries is only permitted for essential reasons: work, health or study, absolute urgency or return to own home, domicile or residency.
  • Brazil is also now on List E until at least Jan. 31. Additionally, the Minister of Health suspended air travel from Brazil and is banning entry to all travelers from Brazil and anyone who has stayed or traveled through Brazil in the 14 days before entering Italy. This restriction will also stay in place until at least Jan 31.
  • All other current travel restrictions will remain in place until March 5.

Additional Information: Residence permits, work permits and entry clearances for family expiring between January 31 and April 30 will be valid until April 30.

Analysis & Comments: Most current travel restrictions were announced before Christmas; however, the latest requirements for travelers from Brazil and the U.K. are meant to stop the spread of COVID-19 variants that have emerged in these countries. The response to the COVID-19 pandemic continues to develop, and Deloitte will provide additional updates as information becomes available. Please check Deloitte’s COVID-19 Digital Map, available here, for information on travel restrictions and immigration changes in other countries.
