IMPACT – MEDIUM
What is the change? Beginning March 21, all tourist and express visa applications must be submitted online through the e-visa portal, the Royal Oman Police have announced. Although the police agency has confirmed that privileged nationals may continue to use visas on arrival, visa issuance procedures may change when the new Muscat International Airport opens March 21 and the online e-visa system will become the primary application method.
What does the change mean? International travelers, including expatriates in the region who make visa runs to Oman, should plan on applying online before travel and not relying on visas on arrival. Companies will need to register and activate a company account on the e-visa system.
Background: The e-visa program, which was introduced in 2017, requires users to fill out an online application, pay the government fee and upload supporting documents.
BAL Analysis: Travelers who rely on tourist or express visas should be aware that they will need to apply for an e-visa before travel starting March 21. Privileged nationals are also reminded that visa procedures are likely to change starting March 21.
