IMPACT – HIGH
What is the change? Argentina has added Brazil and Chile to its list of COVID-19 high-risk countries from which flights are suspended. Additionally, the immigration department has closed.
What does the change mean? Flights from Brazil and Chile will be suspended for 30 days, beginning today. Visa appointments with the immigration department will be rescheduled for April at the earliest.
Background: Earlier this week, Argentina suspended flights from China, Iran, Japan, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, the United States and all Schengen Area countries in an effort to control the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Brazil and Chile are the first Mercosur countries to be added to the list.
Analysis & Comments: Employers should identify affected employees and alter travel and business schedules accordingly. Expatriates in Argentina should expect delays and suspension of services at the immigration department until at least early April.
