Issuance of new passports suspended

The Brazilian government has temporarily suspended the issuance of new passports.

Key Points:

• The temporary suspension has been in effect since Nov. 19.
• Online passport services continue to operate normally; however, the government is not providing processing time frames for those who applied after Nov. 18.
• Individuals who applied for a new passport on or before Nov. 18 will still receive it.

Additional Information: Those who are in need of a new passport for emergencies are still able to apply for one. Authorities will issue emergency passports to those who satisfy emergency requirements and need the travel document urgently. BAL Analysis: The Brazilian government suspended the issuance of new passports due to a lack of funding and resources to produce new documents. BAL will continue to monitor this development and will provide more information once it is available.
