On Jan. 20, 2025, President Trump signed the Executive Order (EO) “Protecting the United States from Foreign Terrorists and other National Security and Public Safety Threats.” No travel bans were imposed pursuant to this EO, but it did set up a 60-day review process to identify countries that may warrant a travel ban in the future.
In another EO titled, “Protecting American People Against Invasion,” government agencies were directed to “take all appropriate action” to implement visa sanctions for “recalcitrant countries” pursuant to section 243(d) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) (8 U.S.C. 1253(d)).
