Work Permit requests to be accepted online only

What is the change? Beginning Aug. 28, work permit applications processed by the Ministry of Labor must be submitted electronically, according to Ministry Orientation #708 (Portatia nº 708) published in Brazil’s Official Press (“Diario Oficial”).

What does the change mean? The ministry is converting to electronic processing and will no longer accept printed applications.

• Implementation time frame: The new rule is scheduled to take effect Aug. 28.

• Visas/permits affected: All categories of Work Permit visas filed with the Ministry of Labor.
• Who is affected: All companies and foreign employees applying for Work Permit visas.
• Impact on processing times: The change should not affect processing times.
• Next steps: Employers and applicants do not need to take any action, as it is already the practice of BAL Brazil to submit Work Permit visa applications electronically.

Background: Since December 2013, the Ministry of Labor has accepted both electronic and paper Work Permit visa applications, but will now phase out paper applications.
