Offices closed, flights canceled due to storm

Government offices were closed and thousands of flights were canceled Friday, as a powerful snowstorm moved its way from the southern United States through the Mid-Atlantic and toward the Northeast.

Winter Storm Jonas is expected to dump as much as two feet of snow on Washington, D.C., before moving north through Philadelphia and New York. The federal government closed all offices in the Washington, D.C. area at noon Friday. Meanwhile, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services closed more than a dozen offices in the path of the storm Friday, with additional closures mounting for Saturday.

Applicants who had appointments for interviews or biometrics at a USCIS field office that was closed Friday will automatically have their appointments rescheduled. Applicants that had InfoPass or other appointments scheduled are asked to reschedule appointments on their own as soon as possible.

Domestic and international flights have also been disrupted. More than 3,000 flights have already been canceled in major cities including Atlanta, Charlotte, Washington, D.C. and New York.
