Foreign employee estimates due May 1

What is the change? Employers in Azerbaijan have until May 1 to provide the State Migration Service with estimates on how many foreign workers they plan to hire in 2019.

What does the change mean? Companies should begin to prepare their foreign worker estimate for 2019.

• Implementation time frame: Between now and May 1, 2018.
• Visas/permits affected: Work permits.
• Who is affected: Companies employing foreign nationals in Azerbaijan, regardless of the foreign worker’s qualifications, nationality or the sector in which they work. Directors and deputy directors of foreign companies are exempt from work permit and quota requirements.
• Business impact: Companies that fail to provide foreign worker projections may face complications in obtaining work permits for 2019.

Background: Authorities have asked for foreign worker projections since 2009. Azerbaijan bases its overall foreign worker quota largely on the estimates that employers provide.
