Immigration News - Australia COVID-19: International travel to resume for vaccinated citizens, residents Share this article LinkedIn Facebook X (Twitter) October 7, 2021 The Australian government recently announced that it would reduce travel restrictions for vaccinated Australian citizens and permanent residents in November. The reduced travel restrictions would apply to residents of states that have reached 80% double vaccination. Key Points: Fully vaccinated Australian citizens and permanent residents over the age of 12 will be able to travel internationally without a travel exemption. Children under the age of 12 who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons will also be able to travel overseas without an exemption. Fully vaccinated Australian citizens and permanent residents may be allowed to quarantine at home instead of in a designated quarantine hotel. Non-resident foreigners would not be allowed to travel under these upcoming guidelines. Additional Information: Once 80% of the Australian population is fully vaccinated, authorities plan to remove arrival caps. More information on the country’s reopening plan can be found here. BAL Analysis: The reopening of international travel is well-anticipated news as Australia’s borders have been closed since March 2020. The response to the COVID-19 pandemic continues to develop, and BAL will provide additional updates as information becomes available. This alert has been provided by the BAL Global practice.
