Immigration News - United States TPS extended for South Sudan Share this article LinkedIn Facebook X (Twitter) September 14, 2020 Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Chad Wolf has extended the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation for South Sudan for 18 months, from Nov. 2, 2020 to May 2, 2022. Key points: TPS for South Sudan is now extended through May 2, 2022. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services is expected to update information on re-registration on its TPS webpage soon. Individuals seeking to reregister should wait for official re-registration dates and instructions to be published before they submit any forms. Background: South Sudan was originally designated for TPS on Nov. 3, 2011 owing to armed conflict, and has been redesignated several times, in 2014, 2016, 2017 and again in April 2019 through Nov. 2, 2020.
