IMPACT – MEDIUM

The Slovakian government has introduced a new visa option for foreign managers living outside the EU.

Key Points:

  • Foreign nationals who live outside of the EU and are managers or experts “requiring special professional knowledge, skills, abilities, qualifications and experience necessary for operation or management” can now apply for long-term D visas.
  • Those who qualify as a manager must be paid at least twice Slovakia’s national minimum wage to be eligible for long-term D visas.
  • Foreign nationals cannot apply for a long-term D if they already hold a valid temporary residence permit.

Additional Information: More information regarding the application process for long-term D visas is available here.

BAL Analysis: Foreign managers who are relocating to Slovakia will now be able to obtain a long-term D visa. The Slovakian government introduced the new visa process to help address labor market shortages and ease the visa application process for qualifying foreign nationals.
