The governments of Qatar and Japan have agreed to introduce a mutual visa waiver program.

Key Points:

  • Beginning April 2, nationals of Qatar and Japan will be able to travel to each other’s countries for up to 30 days without a visa.
  • Qatari nationals must preregister at any Japanese embassy or consulate to obtain visa free entry; once registered, Qatari national will be able to enter Japan without a visa for thirty consecutive days for three years.
  • Travelers will not be able to enter the country without a visa for business purposes.
  • Qatari authorities have yet to publish official requirements for Japanese nationals at this time.

BAL Analysis: Qatari and Japanese nationals will be able to more easily travel to each other’s countries once the visa waiver program takes effect. Those entering Qatar or Japan through the visa waiver program are reminded that conducting paid activities is prohibited.
