IMPACT – MEDIUM
What is the change? Colombian government offices are operating on a limited schedule this week because of Pope Francis’s visit to the country.
What does the change mean? Those in need of immigration services should check schedules ahead of time and expect the possibility of minor delays because of the office closures.
Background: The visit to Colombia by Pope Francis has prompted a reduction in regular office hours. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Migración Colombia were open for just a half day Wednesday and will be closed for all of Thursday. Offices are scheduled to reopen Friday. Access to El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá was also limited, with public access roads closed Wednesday from 1 to 7 p.m.
BAL Analysis: Those in need of immigration services this week or planning on using the airport on days on which the pope is arriving or departing should take note of the change in schedules and expect delays.
