IMPACT – MEDIUM
Nigeria recently announced new visa fees and the implementation date for the Nigeria Visa Policy (NVP) 2020.
- The Nigeria Immigration Service announced new visa fees on Sept. 30 and set Oct. 1 as the implementation date for the Nigeria Visa Policy (NVP) 2020.
- The new visa fees apply to all countries and categories of applicants based on the principles of reciprocity. The visa fees chart contains fee information for 151 charged countries.
- The Nigeria Visa Policy (NVP) 2020 was launched Feb. 4, but not implemented until Oct. 1. The policy was designed to boost tourism, enhance business activities and increase foreign investment. Previously, Nigerian visas were granted in six classes, but that number was expanded to 79 by the new policy. The NVP made it possible for all visa classes to be processed at Nigerian Embassies and Visa Application Centers. It introduced an electronic visa, a new visa for highly-skilled immigrants and included biometric tracking for visa applications, among other changes.
Analysis & Comments: The publishing of the new visa fees provides clarity on the costs of visas for those who wish to enter Nigeria. Employers are encouraged to review the fee chart and adjust budgets as necessary.
