The Japanese government has announced that it will ease its COVID-19 entry requirements in September.

Key Points:

  • Beginning Sept. 7, travelers who have a valid COVID-19 vaccination certificate will no longer be required to submit proof of a negative pre-departure COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours before departure to enter Japan.
  • Japanese authorities will consider travelers’ COVID-19 vaccination certificates valid if they received three doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. More information regarding acceptable COVID-19 vaccination certificates is available here.
  • Travelers who do not have a valid COVID-19 vaccination certificate or proof of a negative pre-departure COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours before departure will not be allowed to enter Japan.
