The Ministry of Health has introduced new rules limiting international travel from India until May 12, 2021.

Key Points:

  • Effective April 27, travelers from India will not be permitted to enter the country until May 12 except for:
    • Travelers having no COVID-19 symptoms and have been an Italian resident prior to April 25.
    • Individuals authorized by the Italian Ministry of Health for reasons of necessity, regardless of current residence.
    • Those who must reach the domicile, home or residence of their minor children, spouse or civil union partner.
  • If an exception is met, individuals must:
    • Submit a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of before arriving in Italy.
    • Complete the digital Passenger Locator Form.
    • Repeat the PCR test at the airport or within 48 hours thereafter.
    • Quarantine for a mandatory 10 days.
    • Repeat the PCR test following the 10-day quarantine.
  • Individuals who are currently in Italy and have transited through or stayed in India within 14 days of April 25 must report their entry to local health authorities and take a PCR COVID-19 test.

Analysis & Comments: The new restrictions will significantly limit travel from India to Italy. Those with urgent travel needs should work closely with their immigration provider to discuss the best available options.
