IMPACT – MEDIUM

What is the change? Zambia is now requiring foreign nationals to be covered by health insurance for the duration of their stay in the country.

  • Implementation time frame: Immediate and ongoing.
  • Visas/permits affected: All visas and permits.
  • Who is affected: Foreign nationals traveling to Zambia.
  • Next steps: Foreign nationals who do not have health insurance can register and pay for health insurance upon arrival.

Analysis & Comments: For the time being, the health insurance requirement is only being applied to long-term residents. However, official policy is that all foreign nationals must be covered by insurance for the duration of their stay. Therefore, foreign nationals are encouraged to obtain health insurance upon arrival in Zambia if they do not already have an insurance plan that will cover them during their time in the country.
