IMPACT – HIGH

Bahrain recently announced visa and travel restrictions to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

Key points:

  • Visas on arrival will not be available until further notice.
  • Most passengers will be denied entry to Bahrain. The ban does not apply to Bahraini nationals, Bahraini residents, diplomats, travelers with prior permission granted letters, military personnel, airline crew or travelers with UN, service or official passports.
  • Travelers who are exempt from the entry ban and have traveled to Iraq, Iran or Lebanon 14 days prior to arriving in Bahrain will be tested for COVID-19 and could be placed in quarantine.
  • All other travelers will be tested for COVID-19 and will be subject to 14-day self-isolation.

Analysis & Comments: The new visa and travel restrictions will impact the movement of people into Bahrain. Employers should account for affected travelers and rearrange travel schedules accordingly.
