IMPACT – HIGH

What is the change? The Argentinian government has announced new COVID-19-related restrictions on travel from the following countries: China, Iran, Japan, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, the United States and all Schengen Area countries. Additionally, Argentina is suspending visa processing at several consulates.

What does the change mean? International flights coming from the above countries have been suspended for 30 days. Exceptions may be made for Argentinian residents, and the duration of the suspension may change. Travelers arriving from the above countries will be placed in mandatory 14-day self-quarantine. Upon arrival, these travelers should provide flight itinerary, address and attend a medical exam to determine possible risk of infection and preventative actions.

  • Implementation time frame: Immediate and ongoing.
  • Affected travelers: All foreign nationals traveling to Argentina from the designated countries.
  • Business impact: Affected travelers should consider altering travel plans.

Next steps: Companies should also anticipate significant delays at Argentinian consulates, especially in countries deemed high risk, as many consulate have suspended visa services. Immigration authorities in Argentina are also considering suspending in-country immigration processing for nationals from high-risk countries, mostly non-Mercosur countries.

Analysis & Comments: Employers should account for affected travelers and rearrange travel schedules accordingly. Companies should expect significant delays in consular and in-country processing, particularly in high-risk countries and for non-Mercosur nationals applying in Argentina.
