IMPACT – MEDIUM

The government of Argentina has announced it will make an exception to its current COVID-19 travel restrictions and allow foreign nationals from neighboring countries entry for tourism.

Key Points:

  • Under a pilot program that took effect Oct. 30, citizens and residents of Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay permitted to travel to the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area. Other parts of the country remain off limits to foreign travelers at this point.
  • Travel permitted under the pilot program is only for tourism, not business travel.
  • Travelers from those countries will not have to comply with the mandatory quarantine period upon arrival, but will need to submit a negative PCR test result take within 72 hours of travel. They will also be required to show that they have health insurance that covers COVID-19 treatment.
  • Eligible foreign nationals will be allowed to enter the country through the Ezeiza International Airport and through the Buquebus Maritime Terminal in Buenos Aires.

Background: Domestic air travel resumed earlier this month, but most international travel is still suspended.
