IMPACT – MEDIUM

What is the change? Angola will no longer issue ordinary visas for short-term business travel.

What does the change mean? Employees will have to apply for a business visa with a shorter length of stay before entering Angola.

  • Effective date: Immediate and ongoing
  • Visas/permits affected: Ordinary visas and short-term visas (STVs).
  • Who is affected: Employees conducting short-term business travel. The change specifically impacts the oil and gas industry; however, applicants from the commercial industry can also apply for STVs.

Background: Earlier this year, Angola removed ordinary visas as an option for short-term business visit applicants in the oil and gas industry. Applicants from other industries normally apply for Tourist/Business E-VISAs for short term business visits, which are valid for 30 days and may be extended in-country for an additional 30 days. As a result of these changes, the Ministry of Mineral Resources has stopped accepting ordinary visa LOIs, eliminating the option for ordinary visas for oil and gas employees.

Analysis & Comments: The change requires employees to obtain short-term visas abroad, and shortens the length of stay for business travel. Unlike ordinary visas, short-term visas are issued for an initial stay of 10 days and are renewable in-country for up to 10 days.
