Brazil | New residence pathway introduced for mega-event workers

Brazil introduced a new residence pathway for foreign nationals employed in qualifying major events, effective Sept. 17, 2026.

Key takeaways:

The new authorization covers temporary foreign workers performing activities directly related to qualifying major events, including:

  • Construction and infrastructure
  • Hospitality and tourism
  • Security and health services
  • Translation and interpretation
  • Information technology and other specialized activities

Foreign nationals may receive authorization for the period of their fixed-term employment contract, generally for up to 24 months and no later than six months after the event ends.

A separate pathway is available for foreign nationals providing specialized technical assistance. These authorizations may be granted for up to one year and renewed for an additional year, subject to the limit of six months after the event concludes.

Applications must be submitted through Brazil’s MigranteWeb portal by the event organizer or an authorized third party.
