The Brazilian government has announced that it will begin issuing new versions of the National Identity Card (CIN) and Brazilian passport.

Key Points:

  • Beginning Aug. 4, Brazilian nationals who have a Natural Persons Register (CPF), reside in Acre, Distrito Federal, Goiás, Minas Gerais, Paraná, Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, and apply for a CIN will receive a new version of the identity card.
  • Brazilian nationals who do not reside in one of the above states or do not have a CPF are expected to be able to apply for the new CIN in March 2023.
  • Beginning in September 2022, Brazilian nationals will be able to apply for a new version of the Brazilian passport that incorporates anti-fraud technology.

Additional Information: Individuals will be able to obtain a digital CIN free of charge through the gov.br application after receiving a physical copy. The new CIN will include a QR code to help authorities authenticate identities and prevent fraudulent activities.
