National Identification Number to be required for certain applications

The government of Sierra Leone has announced that it will require foreign nationals who are applying for certain immigration services to include their National Identification Number (NIN).

Key Points:

• Beginning June 1, individuals who are applying work or residence permits, among other services, must include their NIN issued by the National Civil Registration Authority within the application.
• Those who do not have an NIN must obtain it before submitting their application by applying for one at the National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA) after entering the country.

BAL Analysis: Sierra Leone authorities will require the use of NINs within applications to decrease fraudulent applications and protect the identities of foreign nationals. Those in need of immigration services should leave time to obtain an NIN if they do not already have one.
