Immigration News - Afghanistan Afghanistan Embassy, consulates in the U.S. closed Share this article LinkedIn Facebook X (Twitter) March 18, 2022 The Embassy and Consulates General of Afghanistan in the U.S. have announced that they have closed and ended operations. Key Points: As of March 16, the Embassy of Afghanistan and its consulates have ended all operations in the U.S. and transferred the custodial responsibility of the properties to the U.S. State Department. Consular services will no longer be available for Afghan citizens in the U.S. The Embassy of Afghanistan stated that it remains hopeful that “diplomatic relations between Afghanistan and the United States are resumed.” Officials cited a lack of funding and resources to continue operations in the U.S. BAL Analysis: Afghan nationals will no longer have access to diplomatic representation or consular services in the U.S., including passport services.
