Hong Kong’s immigration authorities have clarified their policy on the use of business visas for public speaking engagements. What does the change mean? Speaking engagements are permitted on a business visa if they are unpaid and if only one speaking event lasting no more than one week occurs during a single trip. Implementation time frame: Immediate and ongoing. Visas/permits affected: Business visas. Who is affected: Foreign nationals conducting public speaking presentations in Hong Kong. Business impact: Companies and employees should be mindful of the restrictions on using business visas and make sure that any speaking engagements conform to the rules. Background: Though speaking engagements were previously allowed under business visas, immigration officials recently clarified the limitations.
