COVID-19: Immigration provisions repealed

The Peruvian government published a new resolution on Aug. 6 that repealed a number of key immigration provisions.

Key Points:

• Extensions of temporary and resident immigration statuses that were granted since March 16, 2020, according to the previous resolution, will only be extended until the new resolution is enacted.
• Foreign nationals who have not been granted an extension of immigration status and received an exit order have 15 days from the tenth day of the new resolution’s publication to leave the country.
  • Individuals who overstay their visa will be subject to an overstay fine beginning 10 days after the resolution’s publication.
• The authorization for foreign nationals to stay outside the country for 30, 183 or 365 calendar days will be resumed on the tenth day after the resolution’s publication.

Additional Information: Foreign nationals with an irregular immigration situation since Oct. 22, 2020, must now request for immigration regularization. Beginning Aug. 17, the deadlines will be resumed.
