COVID-19: Entry requirements reduced for business travelers, students

The Japanese government has announced that it will reduce its entry and quarantine requirements affecting business travelers and students.

Key Points:

• Beginning Nov. 8, eligible business travelers, students and trainee workers will be able to enter the country.
  • Companies must submit applications to the government to obtain entry permissions for their employees.
• Authorities will reduce the quarantine requirement for fully vaccinated business travelers, students and trainee workers from 10 days to three days.
  • Eligible individuals (i.e., those who are fully vaccinated and are traveling from pre-approved areas) are allowed to conduct limited activities which have been listed on the itinerary. This exception does not apply to all individuals.
• Tourists will remain barred from entering the country.

Additional Information: Individuals traveling from countries with virus variants of concern must adhere to additional health and quarantine requirements. International travelers must have proof of a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours before departure to be allowed to enter the country. BAL Analysis: Traveling to Japan for business purposes will be easier for many business travelers due to the reduced quarantine requirements. Individuals traveling to Japan should be aware of other health requirements to enter the country.
