IMPACT – MEDIUM
What is the change? Technical problems that had plagued the Moscow Migration Department in Sakharovo appear to have been mostly resolved.
What does the change mean? Employers and foreign nationals have for the most part been able to submit work permit applications at the Moscow Migration Department in Sakharovo and to complete address registration at local migration offices without issue. Occasional rejections have been experienced, though the problems have significantly improved since the technical problems began earlier this month.
Background: Earlier this month, the Moscow Migration Department in Sakharovo suspended acceptance of work permit applications after experiencing software malfunctions. The problems also affected address registration for foreign nationals holding work permits issued by the Sakharovo office. The problems appear to have been mostly fixed, however, as work permits are now being accepted in a normal manner. Applicants are still experiencing occasional problems submitting applications and when registering their address, but the overall situation has improved significantly.
BAL Analysis: The repair of the technical problems in the Sakharovo office is welcome news for businesses recruiting foreign nationals to work in Russia. Some delays are possible, but on the whole, the situation has significantly improved in recent days. Employers with case-specific questions or concerns should contact BAL.
