The Russian government has announced that it has closed its borders to most foreign nationals. What does the change mean? Foreign nationals are banned from entering Russia. Exempt from the ban are those holding Russian permanent residence permit, transiting through Russia or arriving to Russia because of a close relative’s death. Implementation time frame: From March until May 1. Who is affected: Almost all categories of foreign nationals planning travel to Russia. Next steps: The restrictions are in force until May 1 or until further notice. Employers should expect that any of their foreign employees who are currently outside of Russia will not be allowed to enter the country.
