Immigration News - United States Passport acceptance fee to increase Share this article LinkedIn Facebook X (Twitter) February 19, 2018 The U.S. State Department is increasing its Passport Acceptance fee from $25 to $35 on April 2. Key points: The increase will apply to all first-time applicants for U.S. passports, children’s passports and applications for lost or stolen passports (Form DS-11). The increased fee will not apply to U.S. passport holders who are renewing their passports (Form DS-82). Background: The State Department assesses two fees for applicants using Form DS-11 – one for the State Department and the other for the passport acceptance facility, such as a post office or other office designated to accept passport applications. The State Department has decided to increase the acceptance fee after finding that the current fee does not adequately cover the cost of executing the service. BAL Analysis: Applicants should prepare for the fee increase that takes effect April 2. This alert has been provided by the BAL U.S. Practice group.
