Government offices in Buenos Aires closed Thursday, as Argentina prepared to host the annual G-20 summit. Offices will remain closed Friday. Normal business hours will resume on Monday. Implementation time frame: Nov. 29 and 30. Visas/permits affected: All immigration-related government services. Who is affected: Anyone in need of immigration services in Buenos Aires. Impact on processing times: The change will lead to processing delays and could lead to a backlog of applications when offices reopen on Monday. Delays may be particularly acute given that Argentina was already facing slower processing times because of glitches to a new online system. Analysis & Comments: Employers should prepare for delays associated with the office closures in Buenos Aires. The G-20 summit will also make traveling in Buenos Aires more difficult as authorities take security measures – including closing roads and redirecting traffic – in the city. Airport delays should also be expected. Source: Deloitte LLP.
