Norway has increased its minimum salaries for workers, including foreign nationals. What does the change mean? The new thresholds are 382,900 kroner (about US$45,500) per year (pre-tax) for positions requiring a bachelor’s degree and 412,600 kroner (about US$49,060) per year (pre-tax) for positions requiring a master’s degree. Implementation time frame: July 2016 – June 2017. Visas/permits affected: Residence permits. Who is affected: Employers sponsoring non-EU employees for residence permits for work. Business impact: The increases are about half a percent above last year’s thresholds. Background: Foreign employees applying for residence permits must meet the same pay and working conditions as Norwegian workers in the same occupation and location.
