What is the change? Ireland has updated its list of eligible colleges for non-European students coming to Ireland.

What does the change mean? Non-EEA nationals who want to study in Ireland (excluding study in Ireland for a semester abroad) must choose a course from the list.

• Visas/permits affected: Student visas.
• Who is affected: Non-EEA/Swiss nationals wishing to study in Ireland.
• Business impact: Businesses may employ students part-time during the school term.

Background: The Interim List of Eligible Programmes provides a list of full-time courses of study at eligible colleges for non-European students wishing to study in Ireland. Inclusion on the list indicates that the course of study meets certain minimum criteria. For example, eligible English language programs must maintain a class size of fewer than 16 students and demonstrate that teaching staff are properly qualified.

BAL Analysis: Non-European nationals interested in studying in Ireland should consult the updated list, which is subject to periodic adjustments, and also be aware that the list does not guarantee the quality of the institutions. Students are subject to normal immigration processing for student visa applications.
