Immigration News - Japan COVID-19: Testing requirements increased for visitors from mainland China Share this article LinkedIn Facebook X (Twitter) January 4, 2023 IMPACT — MEDIUM The Japanese government now requires all travelers from mainland China to take a COVID-19 test upon arrival. Key Points: As of Dec. 30, 2022, individuals traveling directly from China or who have been in China within the past seven days must take a COVID-19 test upon arrival in Japan. The testing policy excludes people traveling from Hong Kong and Macao. Those who test positive upon arrival must quarantine for seven days at a government-designated facility. Direct flights from China will be limited to Chubu, Haneda, Kansai and Narita International Airports. Additional Information: Japan instituted the measure in response to “China’s lack of information and transparency” about its current COVID-19 surge, according to the Associated Press. Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said the country’s response will remain flexible and noted that the planned increase of flights between China and Japan has been put on hold.
