Residence permit renewals, work permit quota changes forthcoming Share this article LinkedIn Facebook X (Twitter) March 16, 2023 IMPACT — MEDIUM The Italian government has approved new immigration laws that will change requirements for residence permit renewals and the work permit quota. Key Points: Effective May 9, residence permits for work and family purposes will be renewable for three years instead of two years. Individuals, including those who are not graduating in Italy, will be able to convert study residence permits into work permits without being subject to the quota. The work permit quota will be published every three years instead of annually. Foreign nationals will be able to begin work-related activities while waiting for the “contract of stay” to be signed. BAL Analysis: The updates for residence permit renewals and the work permit quota are still subject to change, as Italian authorities have 60 days from March 10 to modify the laws. BAL will provide more information if the laws are modified before the May 9 effective date. This alert has been provided by the BAL Global Practice Group.
