Ireland | Public consultation opens for employment permit occupations list

Ireland has launched a public consultation to review the occupations eligible for employment permits, aiming to address skill shortages and support economic growth.

Key Points:

• Stakeholders are invited to submit feedback on the Ineligible Occupations List and the Critical Skills Occupations List, which guide Ireland’s employment permit policy.
• The review follows changes made in 2023, which added 11 roles to the Critical Skills list and made 32 roles eligible for General Employment Permits.
• The consultation seeks input from employers facing recruitment challenges or proposing changes to occupation eligibility.
• Submissions will help ensure the employment permit system remains responsive, flexible and aligned with Ireland’s labor market needs.
• Submissions will be accepted through the department’s online consultation form and will be open through September 19, 2025.
