Key Points: Residents born from 1996 to 2000 must apply for a new smart identity card at a designated replacement location from Oct. 7 to Dec. 10. A list of designated replacement locations is available here. Residents can schedule an appointment Monday through Saturday (except public holidays), 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. through this website or this mobile app. Residents who are abroad during their eligible replacement period will have 30 days after they return to Hong Kong to apply for replacement of their cards. Residents born before 1996 can still apply for the new smart identification card; however, they may be fined for applying past the deadline. Additional Information: Hong Kong authorities remain on schedule to complete the four-year initiative to replace all smart identity by the beginning of 2023.
