Torrential rains brought by a monsoon over South Asia have caused severe flooding in Bangladesh, India and Nepal, closing government offices in Mumbai, including Foreigners Regional Registration Offices. What does the change mean? Those seeking government services in Mumbai, including foreign nationals needing immigration-related services at FRROs, should expect delays. Implementation time frame: Immediate and ongoing. Visas/permits affected: FRRO applications and registrations in Mumbai. Impact on processing times: Potential delays of several days are expected. Background: One of the worst monsoons to hit South Asia in years has killed at least 1,200 and left parts of Bangladesh, India and Nepal under water. Government offices and schools were closed for part of Tuesday and all day Wednesday, while public transportation also was shut down. Normal operations began to resume Thursday.
