European Union | Entry/Exit System launch set for Oct. 12

The European Commission confirmed that the Entry/Exit System (EES) will begin operations on Oct. 12, 2025.

Key Points:

• Starting Oct. 12, the EES will be progressively rolled out over six months at the external borders of 29 European countries.
• Border authorities will gradually begin collecting biometric and travel data from non-EU nationals at Schengen external borders, with full implementation of the EES expected once the transition period concludes.
• Public awareness campaigns will be launched at border points and consulates to inform travelers ahead of implementation.

Background Information: The EES is an automated system for digitally tracking the entries and exits of non-EU nationals visiting the Schengen Area for short stays. The system will register biometric data, facial images and other travel information to enhance border security and reduce identity fraud.
