Domicile letter to be required with ITAS applications in South Jakarta

What is the change? The immigration office in South Jakarta will soon impose new proof of residency requirements on ITAS (temporary stay permit) applicants.

What does the change mean? Beginning Monday, Nov. 6, new ITAS applicants will be required to provide a domicile letter from building management if they are staying at an apartment or hotel. If they are staying in a house, they will be required to provide a domicile letter from a local municipality or village office. Renewal ITAS applicants will be required to provide a domicile letter from a local municipality or village office, whether they are staying in an apartment, hotel or house. The changes will bring the policies of the South Jakarta office in line with those that a number of other offices in Indonesia already enforce.

  • Implementation timeframe: Monday, Nov. 6.
  • Visas/permits affected: ITAS applicants, including renewal.
  • Who is affected: New and renewal ITAS applicants.
  • Impact on processing times: The change will add a step to the ITAS application process, but is not expected to increase processing times.

Background: The new requirement appears at least in part due to a personnel shift, after the head of the Central Jakarta immigration office (where the policy was already in effect) was moved to South Jakarta (where the policy was not in effect). The change will bring the South Jakarta office in line with other offices in Jakarta and elsewhere in Indonesia.
