Immigration News - Canada Biometrics requirement resumed for temporary residence applicants Share this article LinkedIn Facebook X (Twitter) February 24, 2023 IMPACT — MEDIUM The Canadian government recently resumed its requirements for temporary residence applicants to provide biometrics. Key Points: As of Feb. 23, foreign nationals must provide their biometrics when applying for temporary residence, including when: Extending their stay as a student, worker or visitor. Restoring their status as a student, worker or visitor. Applying for a work or study permit, visitor visa or temporary resident permit. Some individuals are exempt from the biometrics requirements, including Canadian citizens, citizenship applicants, existing permanent residents, visa-exempt nationals coming to visit Canada and children under the age of 14. A full list of exemptions is available here. Individuals can use the check status tool to see if their biometrics are still valid. Additional Information: Canadian authorities introduced the policy to temporarily exempt individuals applying for temporary residence within Canada from providing biometrics. This policy was implemented in response to COVID-19 pandemic closures and service disruptions at biometrics collection locations across Canada. Individuals are reminded that if they are required to give biometrics as part of the application process, they must pay the biometrics fee when submitting the application.
