Immigration News - Ghana Authorities performing more immigration checks Share this article LinkedIn Facebook X (Twitter) April 17, 2014 IMPACT – MEDIUM What is the change? Ghana’s immigration authorities are ramping up office inspections in which they check papers of foreign workers. What does the change mean? Employers and foreign workers should be prepared for surprise visits and have documents available for inspection. Implementation timeframe: Immediate and ongoing. Visas/permits affected: All visas, work authorization and other immigration-related documentation, including residence permits and ID cards. Who is affected: Companies employing foreign workers; foreign nationals working in Ghana or visiting on business. Impact on processing times: Background: The Ghana Immigration Service began making unannounced visits to offices last March. Immigration authorities have recently increased enforcement and on-site inspections in search of immigration violations. Foreign workers may be asked for their passports, work permits, non-citizen ID cards and residence permits. Business visitors may be asked to show their passports and an invitation letter explaining the reason for their visit. BAL Analysis: Foreign assignees should be prepared for random visits by immigration authorities by keeping proof of immigration status with them at all times. At the same time, foreign workers should ask anyone who approaches them as an immigration official to confirm their identity.
