Argentina has added Brazil and Chile to its list of COVID-19 high-risk countries from which flights are suspended. Additionally, the immigration department has closed. What does the change mean? Flights from Brazil and Chile will be suspended for 30 days, beginning today. Visa appointments with the immigration department will be rescheduled for April at the earliest. Implementation time frame: Immediate and ongoing. Visas/permits affected: Residence permits and other in-country processes. Business impact: Businesses should anticipate delays in processing and postponement of already-scheduled appointments for at least two months. Background: Earlier this week, Argentina suspended flights from China, Iran, Japan, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, the United States and all Schengen Area countries in an effort to control the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Brazil and Chile are the first Mercosur countries to be added to the list. Analysis & Comments: Employers should identify affected employees and alter travel and business schedules accordingly.
